ALASKA STATE LEGISLATURE HOUSE HEALTH, EDUCATION AND SOCIAL SERVICES STANDING COMMITTEE January 25, 2001 3:08 p.m. COMMITTEE CALENDAR OVERVIEW: CHILD SUPPORT ENFORCEMENT DIVISION TAPES 01-5, SIDES A & B CALL TO ORDER REPRESENTATIVE FRED DYSON, Chair, convened the House Health, Education and Social Services Standing Committee meeting to order at 3:08 a.m. PRESENT Committee members present were Representatives Dyson, Wilson, Coghill, Stevens, Kohring, Cissna, and Joule. SUMMARY OF INFORMATION BARBARA MIKLOS, Director, Central Office, Child Support Enforcement Division (CSED), Department of Revenue, presented an overview on the Children Support Enforcement Division. She reviewed the current caseload, existing support orders, orders to be established, locating parents, establishing paternity, establishing administrative orders, the appeal process, opening cases with court orders, domestic enforcement, interstate cases, CSED review for modification of administrative order, CSED review for modification of court orders, and how child support is collected by CSED. She also answered questions from the committee. DIANE WENDLANDT, Assistant Attorney General, Collections and Support, Civil Division (Anchorage), Department of Law, explained due process in the context of child support proceedings. She covered three requirements of due process, personal jurisdiction, notice in legal proceedings, meaningful opportunity to be heard, and examples of due process in the welfare reform context. She also answered questions from the committee. ANNOUNCEMENTS There were no announcements. COMMITTEE ACTION The committee took no action.
